Colmans Seafood Temple. Est 1926.
South Shields.
My partner and I took an evening walk along my home towns seafront. I was in awe of the lights delicately draped around the columns of this beautiful building. I immediately decided to recreate this scene but added a more realistic feel to the work by painting the reflection in the standing water caused by rainfall. South Shields typically has 2 types of weather. It’s either raining, or it looks like it’s about to!
Colman's.

I think when we become familiar with our environments, and adapt to a routine we miss the beauty in front of us. From the days coalminers descended down the pits to technological advances allowing us to work from home, there are generations of memories and stories here. Births, laughter, tears, mistakes, loss, hope, fear, triumphs flow through this wonderful community and in honour of this place I call home I am undertaking a project to pay tribute to South Shields with the hopes that others that were born in, live in, or have memories of this town share their stories and encourage us all to take pause, and look up at the beauty that surrounds us.
