Herd Groyne Lighthouse, South Shields, Tyne And Wear.
A Victorian lighthouse built in 1882 and landmark in my local town of South Shields, The Herd Groyne Lighthouse is a unique structure that has spanned centuries and is still in use today.
I loved painting the dramatic red sky and the classic fog rising from the Tyne in this piece. The lighthouse is almost racecar red in colour with sturdy white feet which adds so much charecter to its design.

I think when we become familiar with our environments, and adapt to a routine we miss the beauty in front of us. From the days coalminers descended down the pits to technological advances allowing us to work from home, there are generations of memories and stories here. Births, laughter, tears, mistakes, loss, hope, fear, triumphs flow through this wonderful community and in honour of this place I call home I am undertaking a project to pay tribute to South Shields with the hopes that others that were born in, live in, or have memories of this town share their stories and encourage us all to take pause, and look up at the beauty that surrounds us.
